How will a Teleprompter Help Me?

This is a question I get asked all the time.  First, let me be completely honest. There is a chance that a teleprompter won't help you.  Especially if you are one of those people that can rattle off a script after only reading through it once or someone that doesn't even need a script because you can do it extemporaneously.

If you are one of these people, congratulations-but I'm afraid that a teleprompter will be more of a distraction to you than an aid.

Now for the rest of us, the ones that have a hard time remembering five words, let alone 500.  A teleprompter can be your best friend. 

Over the years I have had the privilege of working with some of the greatest people in the industry, and have gotten feedback about so many things, but the one thing that I hear over-and-over again is that the teleprompter has to save a ton of production time and allowed the talent to stay on point.

If you need visual assistance to remember your lines there are several ways you can accomplish it, and sure all if the work to a degree.  For example, you can use cue0-card, or place a monitor above or below the camera lens but what a teleprompter does is allow you to look directly into the lens of the camera while text seems to almost magically scroll between you and the lens of the camera.

For public speaking you would be using a presidential teleprompter, and might not even be recording video, but what is important is that you get your message out the way you intend. 

Trying to memorize what to say, or trying to use other visual aids is not as effective as using an inconspicuous teleprompter that allows you to say [read] exactly what you intended and look natural and professional at the same time.

• You will seem better prepared and more professional
• it will help you get the exact message out that you intended
• It will allow you to focus on the product instead of what to say next
• It will allow you to look directly into the lens of the camera while reading your script
• it will give you more confidence when you are delivering your message
